FMN Lab Integrated Photonics Recognized as World's Best

13 january 2025

The prestigious international Optoelectronics Technology Innovation Award was presented to a technology developed by FMN Laboratory for assembling integrated optical modules for a wide range of devices, from quantum coprocessors to LIDAR systems for unmanned aerial vehicle vision. The team proposed a technological solution that increases the integration efficiency of photonic chip optical interfaces to 98% (signal loss less than 0.15 dB), achieving world-leading results (Tutorial on Silicon Photonics Integrated Platform Fiber Edge Coupling).

Devices based on photonic integrated circuits (PICs) are becoming indispensable in many high-tech fields, such as data storage, telecommunications, medical diagnostics, unmanned vehicles, robotics, smart manufacturing, and agriculture. Integrated photonics is one of the most promising platforms for high-performance computing. To fully rely on the advantages provided by photonic devices, scientists and engineers need an efficient mechanism for assembling integrated optical modules – transmitting light from fiber to chip.

The international Optoelectronics Technopreneurship Award is awarded annually at the IEEE OGC 2024 scientific conference, one of the key conferences in the field of optoelectronics in China.
